There are three main standards that confirm antiterrorism properties for road blockers and bollards: BSI PAS68:2013, IWA 14-1 and ASTM F2656. Each standard has a range of vehicle types that travel at a certain speed. The resistance of a road blocker or bollard determines the class of its protection.

PAS 68 is the UK standard and the security industry benchmark for Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) solutions. PAS is a publicly available specification and PAS 68 is one of many standards controlled by the British Standards Institute (BSI).

This year TiSO has completed its product range by adding to its product range PAS68 Road Blockers which were tested at the speed of 48km/h; 64km/h and 80km/h. (Find TiSO Road Blockers tested under PAS68 in the table below; RB313-01 (48km/h) / RB 323-01 (64km/h) / RB333-01 (80km/h)).

Factors such as vehicle types, impact angles, speed; penetration impact and debris dispersion helps you decide which PAS 68 rated product is best for your needs.

Test results are determined with performance rating which describes the main parameters of testing.

IWA 14-1, published in 2013 and is based on elements of two other major impact testing standards, PAS 68 and ASTM. This is the most common standard you will find for HVM bollards, bollards and barriers to protect against hostile vehicles.

The International Workshop Agreement (IWA), issued in 2014, follows a structure similar to PAS 68 with two key differences:

• Penetration measurements are taken from the front of the test product, not the back.
• Scattering of debris is not recorded.

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) was first published in 1985. After that, it was edited several times. The latest revision from 2018 specifies a wider range of vehicles to test.

This test method provides a range of vehicle impact conditions, designations, and penetration performance levels. This will allow company to select passive perimeter barriers and active entry point barriers appropriate for use at facilities with a defined moving vehicle threat.

The DoD list is an approved list of manufacturers that have shown that their equipment meets the stringent testing requirements for anti-ramming equipment and will function reliably against high speed vehicle attacks. The DoD barrier list is an approved list of tested barriers by the protective design centre (PDC). All TiSO vehicle mitigation equipment has been extensively tested in accordance to ASTM and IWA standards to ensure that it meets the strict criteria required by the PDC for DoD approval.
